Coaching Facts
Who is a good
canandiate for life coaching?
Life Coaching is for the person that is truly ready to create a successful life
for themselves. As your coach I will be helping you to make your desired improvements in
your life. If things are pretty good, but you
want them to be great and you are out of ideas then coaching is for you.
How is life coaching different than
therapy?
While there are some similarities
between coaching and psychotherapy, they are very different activities and it is
important that you understand the differences between them. Psychotherapy is a
health care service and is usually reimbursable through health insurance
policies.
This is not true for coaching. Both
coaching and psychotherapy utilize knowledge of human behavior, motivation and
behavioral change, and interactive counseling techniques.
The major differences are in the goals,
focus, and level of professional responsibility.
The goals of psychotherapy include
alleviating symptoms, understanding the underlying dynamics which create
symptoms, changing dysfunctional behaviors which are the result of these
disorders, and developing new strategies for successfully coping with the
psychological challenges which we all face.
Coaching is for people who are basically
well-adjusted, emotionally healthy, effectively functioning, and wanting to make
changes in their lives or more intentionally focus on a challenge or objective.
Coaching is designed to address issues the person being coached would like to
consider. These could include personal issues (but are not limited to: career
development, relationship enhancement, spiritual growth, lifestyle management,
life balance, decision making, and achieving short-term or long-term goals) or
ministry objectives and organizational development.
What can I expect from my coaching visits?
In a typical coaching appointment there will
be a predictable rhythm. The client is expected to set the agenda and will be
asked what they wish to focus on when the visit begins. Throughout the
conversation, your coach will ask questions intended to guide you to process
your thoughts, gain clarity and develop a plan of action to address the issue.
Coaches generally won’t share their
experiences, unless there is a block in generating options for addressing the
issue at hand, and then they may offer examples of options for addressing a
similar issue that they have seen used in their own or other client’s lives.
Again, the objective is to help you “figure it out” from your own knowledge and
experience base.
Each visit is 30 to 45 minutes in
length, so come ready to work as the time is limited.
You will have a scheduled day and time that
is just yours set aside each week with your coach. How you would like to conduct
your coaching is up to you. The coaching visit can be completed in the office
setting or via the phone.
What is the cost of
coaching?
You can have an introductory visit with your
coach at no charge. This is more of a ‘get to know ya’ meeting. It will allow
you to ask some questions of the coach to help you determine if coaching is for
you. Have your questions ready, this is a brief meeting, usually only 15
minutes, and if you decide to begin coaching, you will be given a welcome packet
explaining how coaching is practiced through our office. Additionally you and
your coach will decide on a coaching schedule that best meets your needs.
The first course of coaching is required to
be pre-paid. This fee is $200 and affords you 4 sessions, generally one session
a week. This fee is due upon receipt of your welcome packet.
The next course of 4 coaching session will be
required to be paid on the last session of the current course.
Every course of coaching you sign up for will
then be pre-paid and the amount for a 4 session course is $200.
Other possible fees are addressed in your
coaching packet and are different for each individual coaching client.
What types of
payments do you accept?
You may pay for
coaching with cash, check or credit card. There is a return check fee $30,
should a payment be made on an account with insufficient funds. If your payment
does get returned for insufficient funds you will be put on a cash only payment
option.
What if I can’t pay
the full fee for coaching up front?
Coaching is a pre-paid service agreement and
we do not currently allow for a pay as you go option.
If you feel you would like coaching but can’t
afford it right now. It is suggested you work to save enough for 8 sessions or 2
course ($380) and pre pay for 2 courses. A great deal of work can be
accomplished by you in this time if you are diligent in your follow through and
your desire is true. If you feel you will need more than 2 courses of coaching,
be sure to set aside the funds during those 2 courses to continue to afford
services.
